Stage 20 - The Penultimate Day

Albertville to Val Thorens
The second last leg of Le Tour and it doesn't get any easier for Tony. Although a short stage (130km), there are three categorised climbs, with the last being an Hors Categorie climb to the finish in Val Thorens. And if that wasn't enough this is the third finish in this year's Tour above 2000m! In total Tony will ascend over 4,500 metres over the course of the stage.

Albertville is famous as the host of the 1992 Winter Olympics. Not one of Britain's best Olympic outings we did not win a single medal, the closest being a fifth place in the men's 1000m short track speed skating.

Val Thorens is the site of the world's first funitel - a type of cableway used to transport skiers to high altitudes. Its use of two arms attached to two parallel overhead cables means its more stable in high winds than a traditional gondola lift.

Drink of the day is a traditional French hot chocolate.

Song of the day is The Impossible Dream by Andy Williams.
