Stage 16 - A Family Affair
Nîmes to Nîmes
A rolling stage that takes Tony, and his son William, on a circuitous route through the Gard countryside. At 177km and with only one category 4 climb, Tony will have the chance to take it easy before hitting the Alps in two day's time.
Settled since prehistoric times, Nîmes has a particularly rich heritage with many of its most famous landmarks dating from Roman times. Two in particular stand out.

- Early on in the stage Tony will cross the Pont du Gard - an impressive Roman aqueduct built in the 1st Century AD by the Roman engineer, Agrippa. A UNESCO world heritage site, the aqueduct carried water over thirty miles into Nîmes and has the highest Roman aqueduct bridge anywhere in the world.
- The Maison Carrée is an another example of astonishing Roman architecture which, through significant restoration, has a stunning example of a Roman temple facade.
Drink of the day is Trois Pierres Costières de Nimes, a rich blended local red which goes well with most red meats.
Song of the day is Father and Son by Cat Stevens.
