End of the day

Dinner is over, a French buffet of sorts. I was hoping for chicken and chips. We are in a ski hotel in the Pyrenees that has opened just for our party. There are now over 100 cyclists in our peloton. New people arriving for the real mountains adding over 50 to the full tour group. It feels a really big event now but the organisers led by Sarah are doing a great job. For me it is bit less personable but fabulous people watching.

The time trial day was over quickly and we had time in the afternoon for sleeping and massage. Both were helpful and needed.

There isn’t any time for wandering around the towns we stay in. There is so much to do to keep your tour on track eg. bike adjustments, washing, eating, medical attention for some and resting. One of my decisions before coming in the event was to book single rooms as often as possible. At least I can have a bit of time to myself and no hassle from sharing facilities etc. We all eat together and sit in the bar per dinner. People generally just want to sleep in the evening.

Hotel food has been good on the whole. Breakfast can be a scrum though. Pasta and rice feature a lot on the menu, protein can be a problem getting enough.

Apologies if you get a version of this twice - the comments function is playing up.
I wasn't quite realising that you had your bike to look after as much as yourself. Not something the pros are too bothered about - they just chuck one away and pick up a new one. Gianni Moscon's bike snapped in two yesterday, but I guess racing bikes are built for lightness rather than strength.
Good luck for today in the mountains!
